Useful medical services search site

Looking for details of a hospital or GP or similar? This website http://nhsd.com.au/ searches by town or suburb and gives you results in a googlemaps format. There doesn't seem to be heaps of popup advertising rubbish and on a quick trial it returned meaningful results to me.

Changes to the ACEM new trainee registration process

Effective immediately, ACEM have changed the process for registering as a trainee. Instead of registering and then completing a new trainee interview with your DEMT and one other FACEM and signing a memorandum of understanding new trainees will now need to complete that interview and MOU process before registering. This is felt to be important to prevent people registering as trainees when they are not actually ready to commit to training and then having to suffer the pain of unsatisfactory assessments and failed exams.

Stroke thrombolysis - the ugly controversy. To kick off the hospital academic year Dr Ben McKenzie gives the Emergency Medicine perspective on stroke thombolysis at Grand Rounds:   Why stroke thrombolysis is dangerous and ineffective and should not be administered to anyone outside research.  Why stroke thrombolysis drains resources from other patients who need them.

What's new on ED Central?

There is a new scaphoid fracture pathway for registered users available here and also through Clinical Resources>Bendigo Referal Options>Outpatients and through Clinical Resources>Orthopedic Resouces (which also includes the very useful Paediatric Fracture Guidelines from the Victorian Paediatric Orthopaedic Network, in collaboration with The Royal Children’s Hospital. Hooray!

If you are writing a powerpoint presentation you might like to consider using the edCentral template downloadable here(registered users only). Save as a powerpoint template (your computer will save it in a templates folder somewhere, let it do what it wants) and then when you come to write a presentation start powerpoint, click the office button in the top left, click New, click My Templates (about 4th down on the left column) and select the edcentral template). We'd especially encourage this when speaking outside the department.
